I want to be a rose

Not only when I can't find comfort

In the chaos of the world around me

Or when people tell me I can't

I want to be a rose 

Not only when my heart breaks

Or when my mind weakens

With the burdens of a demanding day

I want to be a rose

Not even when my fears keep me up at night

Or when my doubts engulf my spirit

And makes my next step harder to take

I need to be a rose that grows through concrete

Everyday. Every moment

Until my spirit can stand alone

And still overcome life's woes

Like a rose
